For travelers in the United Kingdom looking to discover Greece, the eastern Mediterranean, or destinations beyond, Aegean Airlines offers an established connection between the UK and its Greek network. The airline provides flights from several UK airports, with Athens serving as an important gateway to destinations across Greece and beyond.
Aegean Airlines, often styled as AEGEAN, is Greece’s largest airline and a member of Star Alliance. The carrier operates an extensive network covering Greece, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Company information states that AEGEAN and its subsidiary Olympic Air carried 16.3 million passengers in 2024 and operated a network covering 162 destinations in 2025.
For UK travelers, this combination of direct services and connections through Athens creates several possibilities for holidays, business trips, island escapes and multi-destination journeys.

Aegean Airlines Flights from the UK
AEGEAN currently promotes flights from the United Kingdom to destinations in Greece and elsewhere. Its UK flight pages list services from London, Manchester and Edinburgh, among other available options, depending on the route and travel period. The airline’s UK information also identifies London Heathrow, Luton and Stansted among London’s airports served by AEGEAN, while direct Athens connections are also available from Manchester and Birmingham according to the airline’s UK page.
London is particularly important within the network. Current AEGEAN listings include flights between London and Athens, as well as services to Greek destinations such as Thessaloniki, Heraklion and Chania.
Because schedules can change according to season and demand, travelers should always check the airline’s booking system for their specific dates.
London to Athens With AEGEAN
Athens is one of the most useful gateways for UK travelers visiting Greece.
The Greek capital combines ancient history with a modern city atmosphere, making it suitable for short breaks as well as longer holidays. More importantly for travelers planning to explore several parts of Greece, Athens can serve as a connection point for onward flights to Greek islands and regional destinations.
AEGEAN’s current London-to-Athens booking page displays one-way economy fares from London at selected dates, with prices varying according to travel date and availability.

The airline has also expanded its Heathrow presence in recent years. In 2024, AEGEAN announced an additional daily Heathrow-Athens service, describing the route as a way of increasing connectivity between London and Athens and improving connections onward to Greek islands through Athens.
Exploring Greece Beyond Athens
One of the biggest attractions of flying with a Greek carrier is the opportunity to continue beyond the capital.
AEGEAN’s UK-to-Greece listings currently feature destinations including Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania, Santorini, Rhodes, Mykonos, Corfu, Kos, Paros and Naxos, although availability varies according to departure airport and travel date.
This makes the airline relevant to several types of Greek holiday.
A first-time visitor might combine Athens with a classic island destination. A returning traveler could focus on Crete, Rhodes or the Cyclades. Others may prefer northern Greece and use Thessaloniki as their base.

Manchester and Edinburgh Connections
Aegean Airlines’ UK network is not limited to London.
The airline currently displays Manchester-to-Athens flights on its UK booking pages, while Edinburgh is also listed with connections to Athens and Greek destinations.
This is useful for travelers who live outside London and would prefer to begin their journey closer to home.
Travelers should nevertheless check the exact operating schedule for their dates, as airline routes and seasonal frequencies can change.
Why Athens Matters as a Hub
Athens is more than a holiday destination within the AEGEAN network. It is also a significant connecting point.
A traveler flying from the UK could use Athens as the starting point for a broader Greek itinerary. For example, a journey could begin in London, continue to Athens, and then connect to an island or another Greek city.
The airline has specifically highlighted the role of Athens in connecting London with Greek islands.
For travelers who want to see more than one part of Greece, this network structure can make itinerary planning more flexible.
Miles+Bonus for Frequent Travelers
AEGEAN operates its own frequent-flyer programme called Miles+Bonus.
The programme allows members to earn and redeem miles on eligible flights and partner services. AEGEAN currently describes two main types of miles: Tier Miles, which contribute toward membership status, and Award Miles, which can be used for rewards.
The programme includes Blue, Silver and Gold tiers, with benefits varying by status. Current benefits can include additional baggage, lounge access, priority services and other travel privileges, subject to programme conditions.
AEGEAN is also making changes to Miles+Bonus, with the airline stating that a transition period will accompany the updated rules. Members should therefore check the current programme terms before planning travel around particular benefits.
Connections Beyond Greece
AEGEAN’s network isn’t limited to Greek destinations.
The airline serves numerous cities across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Its Athens-centered network therefore provides UK travelers with potential connections to destinations beyond Greece.
The airline’s partnership with Emirates has also expanded travel opportunities for frequent-flyer members. Since 2025, Miles+Bonus members have been able to earn and redeem eligible miles on Emirates flights, while Emirates Skywards members can earn and redeem miles on eligible AEGEAN and Olympic Air flights.

Booking an Aegean Airlines Flight from the UK
When booking an AEGEAN flight, the most important factors to compare are the departure airport, destination, travel dates, fare type, baggage requirements and connection arrangements.
The airline’s UK booking pages display fares that can vary substantially depending on the date. For example, current fare listings show different prices for London-Athens services across different months. These displayed prices are dynamic and should not be treated as fixed fares.
Travelers should also review the conditions attached to their selected fare before completing a booking, particularly if they need checked baggage, seat selection or flexibility to change their plans.
A Greek Airline With an International Network
Although AEGEAN is strongly associated with Greece, its role has expanded into a much broader regional network.
The airline says it was founded in 1999 and has developed into an international carrier with bases in Greece and abroad. Its fleet includes Airbus A320 and A321neo-family aircraft, while the company remains a Star Alliance member.
For UK passengers, that means the airline can be considered not only for a direct Greek holiday but also for journeys requiring connections through Athens or other parts of the network.
Final Thoughts
Aegean Airlines UK provides travelers with a range of ways to reach Greece from the United Kingdom, with London playing a particularly important role and services also available from other UK cities depending on the route and season.
Athens is at the heart of many of these journeys, offering both a destination in its own right and a convenient starting point for exploring Greece’s diverse islands and mainland regions. From Crete and Rhodes to Santorini, Mykonos, Corfu and Thessaloniki, AEGEAN’s network gives travelers numerous destinations to consider.
For frequent travelers, the Miles+Bonus programme adds another dimension, while AEGEAN’s wider partnerships provide additional international connectivity.
Whether the goal is a weekend in Athens, a relaxing Greek-island holiday, a multi-stop Mediterranean itinerary, or a journey connecting onward through Greece, Aegean Airlines offers UK travelers a direct link into one of Europe’s most diverse travel regions.
